Social and environmental responsibility

The essential task of pedagogy today is to give the growing generation responsibility for their social and ecological environment.

But in order to take responsibility, you have to know the context of what you should take responsibility for. But in such a complex and highly specialized world, even adults can’t comprehend the connections:

  • How do currency rates, swaps and futures work?
  • What is behind Cryptocurrencies, Blockchain and Darknet?
  • How are political decisions actually taken?

No one can understand this, especially children. So what to do? Trying to understand things too cognitively is certainly good, but overwhelms us.

We need a different reference system that allows us to make responsible decisions for our environment. We use the element of our social and ecological environment to which we have the best access: our feeling, our intuition, ourselves.

What does this mean for education?

  • That we need to give our children the opportunity to feel, understand, and express themselves.
  • That we let them know how effective they can be for themselves and their environment.
  • That we teach them to be a part of the whole.

In the daycare, this can be implemented at all levels: program of the daycare, in the choice of an annual theme, in the design of the daily routines and in the planning of pedagogical activities and in the everyday communication with the children. The techniques and methods for this are manifold, easy to research and belong to the tools of an educator. Nature experience is certainly one of the most potent methods.

In addition, the Peron of the educator is crucial as a model:

  • How does my educator allow feelings, and how does he express them?
  • How is my educator involved in the design of the daycare, the mood in the group and the educational partnerships with the parents?
  • How does my educator deal with material resources and with his colleagues?

Children who have such experiences and role models have a good chance of becoming personalities who take responsibility for their social and environmental environment. They can constructively address the threats to our nature and society and build a sustainable future.

Quantum mechanics and education

Quantum mechanics and education

For me, what quantum mechanics has found out about the laws of the microcosm is only partially tangible. Especially this: that a particle can be at different positions at the same time (superposition). It loses this potential of being in multiple places at the same...

Only one childhood per person

Only one childhood per person

And if that goes well, chances for a life unfolding the child's potential for her environment are quite good. For some children, the "good" in childhood is mainly in daycare, where they often spend more time than with their parents. That is why a cordial...
